To celebrate Carers Week (9–16 June), unpaid carers from across Fife enjoyed a well-deserved break at Respitali-TEE — a special Carers Day Out hosted by Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) through their local Respitality initiative.

The event, held at Dunnikier Park Community Golf in Kirkcaldy, offered unpaid carers a chance to unwind, connect, and enjoy a round of park golf followed by a buffet lunch and social activities. The day was made possible through a continued partnership between FVA and Dunnikier Park Community Golf, who have worked together since 2022 to support community wellbeing. The Day Out was also a part of Respitality’s birthday celebrations, who recently marked ten years of operating as a social tourism franchise in Scotland.

Reilly Dufresne, Respitality Coordinator at FVA, said: “Respitality is an amazing project to be a part of. When I was younger, I watched family members take care of an ailing loved one, and sometimes all they wanted was 10 minutes to themselves. It’s incredible how impactful small breaks can be. We’re thrilled to collaborate with Dunnikier Park Community Golf, who are already so dedicated to giving back to the Fife community.”

Park Golf, a fun and accessible version of traditional golf, was the perfect activity for the sunny day. Carers were welcomed with tea and coffee before being grouped into teams to enjoy the nine-hole course. After the game, attendees gathered in the clubhouse for a free buffet lunch and light-hearted activities.

Of those that attended, 100% of unpaid carers reported an improvement in their mental wellbeing as a result of the event.

FVA’s partnership with Dunnikier Park Community Golf began in 2022 with support from the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund. Since then, the club has grown significantly, with games played increasing from 400 in 2022 to 1,500 in 2024. FVA has supported the club with funding, equipment, and volunteer coordination, helping to create a welcoming space for all.

Martin Christie, President of Dunnikier Park Golf Club, added:
“We’re delighted to offer free park golf sessions to unpaid carers in Fife. We’re confident that carers will have lots of fun, helping to free their minds from their daily challenges.”
